Ok let's put a smile on this...lol

There is a 1 yr warranty like any other cellphone or cordless phone.

We all know that if u wait long enough on a new product the price will drop before a new model is released. Nothing bad in that.

If u want the best as soon as its released then u will pay premium price.

I got mine for $99 since I have u-verse and I expect to have the HM for at least a yr, however I think it will work longer then that unless a dog chews it up or drool over it.

We all know that there are tablets coming maybe from apple or other makers. The HM tablet has its limitations when it comes to HTML browsing or using other applications but hey lot of things has evolved since it was introduced.

I do agree that it would have been fun if more companies would have been in the game of wired line/VOIP hardware.

Voip has exploded the last couple of years with service around $12 a month for unlimited LD. More people will get new hardware and I am sure that we will see some very cool stuff coming out.

Kudos!

I'm not trusting them next time around...obviously they had NO INTENTION of upgrades or new features, just sent everyone to the Wireless site to vent?  Knew it was a red flag when the price dropped, it was NEVER worth $350, sorry.

Guess that's their thinking that EVERYONE will go VoIP, so why have a device like this for landline (and with VoIP, it's not redundant, IMO).

Sounds like this time they did copycat VZN in discontinuing at about the same time.  WHY are they still hedging and not admitting it's a dead dog? :smileymad:

If you plug it into the RG it is voip and most of us purchased a package (or 2) for 99 bucks.  We actually love the darn things and will use it until something better comes along.  My wife likes to carry one of the screens around the house and loves the speaker phone so she can talk and do something else at the same time.  How many phones show you the weather, recipes, news etc..?  They are still great devices.  I'm a developer and do some programming in WinMo and Android and yes I can think of thousands of things that could be done with one of these.  If they had a higher resolution screen and an open developement platform this would be one of the hottest things around.  IMHO it is still pretty cool and very funtional as a phone too...

Now about that nasty note about moving HDNET and HDMOV to the premium tier?  ugh!!!

Kudos!

You can use any line on HM.  I have a standard AT&T land line, but you can use any dial tone from any company whether it be fed via copper or VoIP.  You also need a high speed internet connection.  Recommended to at least have 1.5 download at a minimum.

If you currently have AT&T for your phone service you get "free" unified voice messaging if you have the home manager.  You set it up/request it thru the HM frame and then AT&T sends you an email with instructions on where to go to activate/set everything up.  The only charge that was added to my land line bill was $1.00 a month for call forward no answer.

Kudos!

Anyone else get the following email today? It sounds like it's business as usual and the Home Manager is not going away and is being sold again? Not sure what to think.

I got that about 3 days ago and gave my opinions.  Seems they could still revamp our old models via software with improvements?   Some questions seemed to hint at having ONLY Frames available, no Handsets.

Grabbed some choices they gave on the survey:

These items are being considered as future features and informational enhancements to HomeManager. Please rank the top four that are most likely to be your favorites.

Calendar synchonization (with popular online calendars, Google, Yahoo, etc)

Email support for additional providers (e.g., Yahoo) and additional accounts (more than 5)

Email synchronization (messages read or deleted from HomeManager will be marked "read" or deleted on email server)

IM or Instant Messaging

Internet radio (play internet-based radio channels)

Online photo services integration (e.g., Flickr, Snapfish, Picasso) [sic] Picasa!

Open access to internet (unrestricted browsing)

Security and home automation control

SMS text messaging

Social networks support (e.g., Facebook, My Space)

Traffic reports

TV: Access program guide and schedule DVR recordings

TV: Watch programs on frame (including live, recorded or video on demand)

Use the space below to provide details on your rankings. (Optional)
