I just got Media Share (53402) and had some initial trouble--my three TVs would not show up in Media Sharing as "Unknown Devices" as expected, using ATT Media Share Wizard. Despite multiple attempts, and using links to instructions found in this forum, it just wouldn't work--so I called customer service. Using the direct number, I was immediately connected to a CSR (who spoke fluent English), and he walked me through the process of rebooting my RG and all three STBs. Two of the three TVs were then detected by Media Sharing, leaving the DVR. So we tried flying into the face of reason--we disabled MediaShare in the TV UVerse menu, THEN reopened WMP11 (just the opposite of the instructions) and the third TV was picked up. Don't know why it worked, but it did. The point is that the CSR did a GREAT job--very patient and methodical. Further, I often read posts here about how ATT never returns phone calls when promised. When rebooting the RG, I lost UVoice--the CSR explained this would happen, took my cell phone number prior to having me reboot, and called me back within a minute or so to resume the process exactly as he said he would. This was probably the best customer service experience I have had thus far, and I was particularly impressed at the prompt callback despite all the negative posts. Just wanted to tell a positive story--despite a few negative issues with ATT in the past, I am still a very satisfied Uverse subscriber. docbombay

I'm having the same problem as you - non-recognition of my 3 TV's in Media Share under WMP 11 Library. How do you disable Media Share in the ATT Uverse menu? I will power down my RG later and then press the power button on the DVR and 2 STB's for 5 seconds each to reset them. This could resolve my problem. Message Edited by sirmaru on 08-31-2009 04:53 PM

Sirmaru, I'm sorry if I wasn't specific enough. First, the RG reboot wasn't effective in my case (but it wouldn't hurt to try). Once that attempt failed, the CSR had me turn off my computer completely, then reboot each STB (including the DVR). I have been told it's better to do this by unplugging for 10-15 seconds, but I don't know if it really makes a difference. Once the DVR and STB's rebooted I opened Media Share on each TV, then restarted the computer and then two of the three TVS were recognized (the two STBs) by WMP as unknown devices. Then, I tried turning off Media Share (exiting from the menu) on the TV with the DVR, which is the opposite of what is indicated in the instructions. I then closed and reopened WMP11, and the DVR was recognized as the third unknown device. As far as my firewall (Bitdefender), I just made sure the necessary ports were open (I believe these are 1900,2869,10280-10284, and 10243). It is somewhat unclear why this worked, but in my case it did and Media Share is working. It does have the occasional "glitch" in displaying a photo or playing a song but it seems to work well most of the time. I hope this helps you a bit. docbombay

My Media Share now works perfectly if I boot without Zone Alarm Firewall. If I place back Zone Alarm, Media Share does not function. It could be I am missing opening some TCP and UDP ports. I notice you had to open a lot of ports in Bitdefender. Were any of those TCP or UDP ports? Message Edited by sirmaru on 08-31-2009 09:24 PM

I finally found my source of information--go to the link and see "firewall requirements." http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/faq/sharing.mspx Again, sorry for the lack of detail--it just took me a bit to remember where I found the info. docbombay

Thanks, lads, I tried those port numbers and it still doesn't work. It's possible that my version of ZASS is simply incompatible with Media Share. I use Windows XP SP3 Media Center Edition. Several years ago someone told me that ZASS doesn't work with Media Center. I never understood that since I had no problems. Maybe this is THE PROBLEM. I even tried turning off the Firewall for the Trusted Zone and it still didn't work. Thus, it could be a program clash. I'll have to do without Media Share unless I change firewalls alttogether.
